2. Team Transparency & Credibility
Team Transparency and Credibility
What to Evaluate
The people behind the project, their integrity, experience, and openness are crucial to assessing value. A strong, transparent team can execute on roadmap goals and navigate setbacks. An anonymous or unproven team introduces more risk.
🙈 Doxxed vs Anonymous
Is the team publicly identified or anonymous?
Doxxed founders inspire more trust, reputational risk helps prevent scams.
Anonymity doesn’t always mean scam, but you should ask why the team chose it.
⚠️ CertiK suggests asking: “Is the anonymous team preparing for their exit scam?”
Scoring:
✅ Fully transparent team that engages in interviews, events, and comms = high score
❌ Anonymous team with no audits, no presence, and no credible signs = score low
🧠 Team Experience & Track Record
Check founders’ and advisors’ backgrounds: Have they worked on known crypto or tech projects?
Look for LinkedIn profiles, GitHub activity, or previous roles with credible companies
Red flags: Empty bios, fake names, newly created accounts, no team page
Scoring:
✅ Proven experience (e.g. ex-Google, Ethereum contributors, founders with past success) = 9–10
🟡 New but transparent team = mid score
❌ Known scams or zero credentials = bottom score
🛠️ Tools:
📢 Communication & Transparency
Does the team publish regular updates? Host AMAs? Show up in Discord or on Twitter?
A visible, responsive team adds confidence
Look for realistic roadmaps, dev blogs, and whether they deliver on milestones
Scoring:
✅ Transparent, talkative, and meets roadmaps = high
❌ Silent team, broken promises, or ghosting = low
Examples of transparency:
Public treasury reports
CEO doing regular Q&As
Open community feedback
📎 Credibility Signals
Has the project undergone security audits (CertiK, Quantstamp, etc)?
Are there real investors or advisors backing it?
Does the project fake partnerships or name-drop without verification?
⚠️ Verify every name, advisor, or partner. If they’re not listed on the partner’s official channels, don’t trust it.
Scoring:
✅ Audited + supported by real, verifiable partners = higher score
❌ Big names with no proof, or unverifiable "backers" = red flag
🔍 Tools for Team Due Diligence
LinkedIn → Verify identities and background
Google / Twitter → Search team names for any red flags or past history
GitHub → Look for real dev activity (commits, forks, contributors)
CryptoRank → Often shows team info + funding details
Oriole Insights → (if available) for team scoring
Bubble Maps → If the team is anonymous, check for wallet behavior and token holding clusters
💡 Anonymous teams can still build trust by:
Locking team tokens in verified vault contracts (check on-chain)
Publishing security audits
Making code open source
Summary
Score higher if:
Team is doxxed, has relevant experience, shows up, and delivers
Score lower if:
Anonymous, silent, fake presence, or past scam history
In some cases, an anonymous team can earn a mid-score if they:
Have a working product
Locked tokens
Passed an audit
Communicate well
Always record red or green flags to justify your sub-score.
